Teatr Klucz: Amoroso

Amoroso, ph Maciej Kaczynski

Endeavour therefore to withdraw thy heart from the love of visible things, and to turn thyself to the invisible. (Thomas à Kempis)

About the performance

Following the award-winning and critically acclaimed productions Tranquillo and Intermezzo, Teatr Klucz returns to the stage with Amoroso, a sincere and intimate performance devoted to love in all its forms.
In this production, the artists tell stories of love with devotion and honesty. Love for partners, for friends, for life itself. Love experienced by those who feel fulfilled, but also by those who are lost, abandoned, or searching.

The performance invites the audience to reflect on essential questions:
What does love truly mean to you?
Do you love sincerely?
Are you willing to love at all?
And what are you ready to sacrifice for it?

On stage, the performers reveal a wide spectrum of human emotions and behaviours that mirror the many dimensions of love.

Amoroso is for lovers and loved ones, for the happy and pleased. For the lost and the abandoned.

Artistic Language

Amoroso unfolds as a poetic and dreamlike stage experience.

The performance combines various theatrical forms, with a strong focus on dance, movement, and improvisation. The rhythm is calm and contemplative, allowing space for emotional nuance and personal expression.

Creation Process

All performances by Teatr Klucz created under the artistic supervision of Janusz Orlik emerge from a collaborative artistic process.

The work begins with shared research, conversations, and physical exercises. Each performer contributes their personal experiences, emotions, and unique artistic abilities. These elements become the foundation of the performance.

In previous productions, Orlik shaped the material into a cohesive narrative and aesthetic form. With Amoroso, the ensemble went a step further: the choreography itself was created collaboratively by the entire group together with their artistic leader.

Accessibility

Accessibility is an integral part of the performance. Small parts of the spoken text are translated into Polish Sign Language through an integrated interpretation: the interpreter is present on stage as one of the performers, with her own role, choreography, and costume, fully embedded in the scenic world of the piece.

The performance is also presented with audio description, making it accessible to visually impaired audiences.

Production & Reception

Amoroso premiered in November 2024 at the ZAMEK Culture Centre in Poznań, Poland, as a new commission within the international Europe Beyond Access project.

Since its premiere, the performance has been warmly received by audiences and critics and has been presented on several stages and at festivals across Poland.

The prestigious Polish theatre magazine “Teatr” included Amoroso among the 25 most interesting productions of the 2024–2025 season, ranking it fifth on the list.

Additionally, the Guild of Critics, Reviewers, and Academics in Poland mentioned Amoroso three times in their annual list of the most significant achievements in theatre and dance, including recognition in the categories of choreography and light design.

The Company

Teatr Klucz is one of the few professional theatre companies in Poland composed of artists with disabilities.

Despite having no formal academic theatre training, the ensemble has developed a strong artistic identity and a high level of professionalism, gaining recognition both nationally and internationally.

The artists of Teatr Klucz are participants of the “Przylesie” Occupational Therapy Workshop, run by the Na Tak Association in Poznań.

The group began working together in 2006, when a theatre workshop was created under the leadership of therapist Hanna Rynowiecka and actor Wojciech Deneka. Since 2016, the company has been in residence at the ZAMEK Culture Centre.

In 2021, choreographer and dancer Janusz Orlik became the group’s artistic leader, director, and choreographer. In the same year, professional performer Antek Kurjata joined the ensemble.

The company has since grown into one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Polish theatre.

Artistic Direction

The artistic director of Teatr Klucz is Janusz Orlik, a choreographer and dancer known for his work at the intersection of dance and theatre.

Since 2021 he has led the ensemble’s artistic development, directing and choreographing productions that build on the performers’ individuality while creating a strong collective stage language.
