Katarzyna Żeglicka

ACTIVISM CAN BE DANCE

Katarzyna Żeglicka is queer disabled woman, a feminist and an activist for the rights of disabled women*. She is the co-founder of the association of disabled women – Venus de Milo Zone.

Żeglicka is a performer, dancer and a trainer of self-defense and assertiveness for girls and women* – WenDo, as well as a cultural animator and professional employment counselor.

Her credits including being the author of the performance “Resonance contrast” shown in Kathmandu in Nepal, co-creator and co-performer of the show “Movement”, and performer in Teatr 21’s “PokaZ” in Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw.After the death of Rafał Urbacki – director, choreographer and dancer, together with his friends and co-workers (Anu Czerwiński, Kacper Lipiński, Magdalena Przybysz, Igor Stokfiszewski, Weronika Szczawińska, Jaśmina Wójcik, Jakub Wróblewski together with the curator Weronika and Komuna Warszawa) she helped to develop and perform “Rafał Urbacki Solo”.

A graduate from the annual Stage Choreography Course, Katarzyna Żeglicka was selected to take part in Europe Beyond Access laboratories in Malmo, Maastricht and Bytom. She has closely cooperated with non-government organizations for the past 10 years. frequently runs workshops, including WenDo, works with body and voice, empowerment, active job search, accessibility and the rights of disabled persons with a particular focus on women’s rights*.

Currently she has delivered over 3000 workshop hours and is a specialist in the prevention of discrimination and violence against disabled women, an expert advisor in accessibility and a co-author of reports and essays on disability and non-heteronormativity.
