On 3 December, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Europe Beyond Access will launch Learning to Change, a new report by On the Move, commissioned by Skånes Dansteater in the context of Europe Beyond Access, with support from the British Council. The study reviews the state of accessibility (or lack of accessibility) in higher arts education across Creative Europe countries and the UK, drawing on input from disabled artists, cultural organisations, and higher education institutions.
The report identifies persistent barriers to access while highlighting examples of emerging good practice. It calls for a move from individual goodwill to structural, institutional change.
The online launch event – on December 3 at 11 am CET – will be moderated by Maria Vlachou (Acesso Cultura, PT) and Aristide Rontini (Al.Di.Qua, IT), and will include a presentation by On the Move and artistic responses to the findings. Representatives from Warsaw’s Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art and Madrid’s Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático will discuss the implications for performing arts education.
