About the show
Blurring the boundaries between reality and imagination, choreographer Annie Hanauer questions depictions of the body.
This multidisciplinary piece takes as its starting point the experience of limbs that have been fitted with prostheses. Drawing on her own experiences and those of four dancers, both disabled and non-disabled, and particularly their relationship with limbs seen as outside the ‘ordinary’, Annie Hanauer creates a series of unique choreographic self-portraits. Each dancer expresses their own individuality while maintaining a constant awareness of the others in the group, creating a set of true tableaux vivants. Starting with the Limbs takes its four dancers on a singular choreographic journey, adopting portable, wearable sculptures designed and created by designer Ghali Bensouda using techniques from digital morphogenesis and 3D printing.
Following the success of Parade in 2022, L’autre Maison has continued its exploration of inclusivity by inviting choreographer Annie Hanauer to work on Starting with the Limbs. Hanauer has spent more than 10 years creating and teaching all over the world. She was previously seen at TNB in 2018 in Rachid Ouramdane’s show Tordre.
